The short version of how ChaiPoint works for Kenyan creators and the people who support them.
What exactly is ChaiPoint?
It’s a way for fans to support Kenyan creators with small, one-off payments — a chai for a post, a mandazi for a video. Fans pay with M-Pesa STK Push. Once your payout is live, the money lands on the bank you set up.
How do supporters pay?
With M-Pesa STK Push. A prompt is sent to their phone, they confirm with their PIN, and the money moves — no cards, no accounts, no extra apps.
How much does ChaiPoint cost?
Creating a page is free. There are no monthly plans. Your first month after payouts go live, you keep 100% of what fans send. After that you keep 90%. Supporters never pay a fee.
When do I get paid?
Fans pay by STK Push. We send that chai to the Kenyan bank account you set up, after we connect it and email you that you’re live. There is no ChaiPoint wallet to withdraw from. Test a chai on your own page once you’re live.
Is this for businesses?
No. ChaiPoint is for creators — cartoonists, podcasters, YouTubers, writers, musicians. If you make work people love, this is your page. We are not a billing tool for companies.
Is ChaiPoint coming to other countries?
Yes. Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda are coming soon, with local mobile money for fans and payouts for creators. For now ChaiPoint is live in Kenya only.
Do I need a bank account?
No. A page can go up with just your details. To receive chai you add a Kenyan bank account. We’ll email you when it is live.
